Haystacks 8

On a drive out from Canowindra I found a new shot for my haystacks series. I think it's my best so far.

  1. The utilitatian becomes art. I like to think that this was done deliberately, that someone is a would-be installation artist but mostly I think you have a great eye, JE. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful.

  2. I've been scrolling up and down, testing the proportions of earth and sky. You could prolly crop some of the sky but ask Julie, I think she's more precise.

  3. I just came back from a tour of the haystacks. You're definitely onto something JE. I can't wait to see where it takes you.

  4. I have to think about that!

Firstly, the series is a joy. No one does country as well as you, Joan ... well Letty is bordering-on-okay but works on the trickle-down effect!

Proportions here are not classical ... but they do emphasise the wide-open spaces that western NSW is reknown for. I love the plough furrows in the foreground: well it has probably been scarified but let's not quibble. You get the sense that man is not in control out here: that there is another master.

  5. I love this one!
I love the shadows the clouds have made and I love the little house in the background.
Oh yeah - and the haystack too.

    (Hey Julie!
"works on the trickle-down effect" - waz that mean?)

Windy August

Tumbleweed It was August (known to be a windy month of the year) and it was blowing a gale.  Tumbleweeds hurtled across our path, pressed forward by the busy wind. While I was photographing the tumbleweed, I braved the icy blast to find a few more tiny flowers and fruits by the roadside.

Big sky country 3

The Pinnacles, Broken Hill Clear blue sky is very dull!  But there is something of interest in the image.  These odd shaped mountains appear on the skyline just outside the city. I had planned otherwise for my closing sky today.  On a hill outside town there are wonderful sandstone sculptures which I saw the last time I was here. I planned to photograph them against the setting sun but we left our run too late, so you don’t get to see them until our return journey.
