Wine country

At Kandos you begin to see the vineyards for which the region is well known. But perhaps more intriguingly at Kandos is the arial ropeway used to transport limestone from the quarries. I didn't get a good photo of that on this trip.

Musing:
Love Poem by William Butler Yeats
"Wine comes in at the mouth
And love comes in at the eye;
That's all we shall know for truth
Before we grow old and die.
I lift the glass to my mouth,
I look at you, and I sigh."

  1. As you probably realise by now, Yeats is a particular favourite. I disagree with Yeats a bit here: I do not think love comes in through the eye. I think attraction comes in through the eye. Not sure about love: I suspect it might come through the nose and the skin. Although people can fall in love via the internet or the telephone.

That aerial ropeway sounds intruiging ...

  2. I do realise that Yeats is a favourite and I think I might have neglected him so you have been sending me in his direction to reassess. Regarding love I suspect there are gender differences.

  3. There are gender differences for attraction and for lust - both of which come through the eye and are rapidly transmitted to other organs! But love is another concept altogether ... oui?

  4. Love is a complex topic. An ongoing attraction certainly helps love last.

  5. My first thought was that this "love" was more likely lust. The poem sounds a little tongue in cheek to me.

  6. Here I come with my lance to defend WBY!!

He was very much taken with one Maud Gonne as a young man. She being older than he, toyed with him and then spurned him. He never really got over than. He was a true romantic.

Windy August

Tumbleweed It was August (known to be a windy month of the year) and it was blowing a gale.  Tumbleweeds hurtled across our path, pressed forward by the busy wind. While I was photographing the tumbleweed, I braved the icy blast to find a few more tiny flowers and fruits by the roadside.

Big sky country 3

The Pinnacles, Broken Hill Clear blue sky is very dull!  But there is something of interest in the image.  These odd shaped mountains appear on the skyline just outside the city. I had planned otherwise for my closing sky today.  On a hill outside town there are wonderful sandstone sculptures which I saw the last time I was here. I planned to photograph them against the setting sun but we left our run too late, so you don’t get to see them until our return journey.
