Black faced sheep

To our surprise we found we had reached Hargraves and were still on bitumen.  Pressing on to Hill End  we were even more surprised that it didn't run out the whole way.  It seems less of an adventure but must be nice for the people living at Hill End to not have to bump their way over 80-90kms of rough road to do the weekly shopping.

We are in the area of New South Wales where gold rush began.  Hill End just reeks with old mining town history and charm.  Visit Hill End over at 100 towns.

    1. There was wonderful tussock grass on the block too. I would have liked to get that into the shot but was too lazy to change my lens.

    1. The road we took was from Mudgee to Hill End. The road to Bathurst via Turondale is almost all sealed too ... just 10 or so kms unsealed between Hill End and Sofala but it won't be long before that's done.

  4. Enjoying this photo. No doubt the sheep considers this a great place to relax in the shade :D)

Windy August

Tumbleweed It was August (known to be a windy month of the year) and it was blowing a gale.  Tumbleweeds hurtled across our path, pressed forward by the busy wind. While I was photographing the tumbleweed, I braved the icy blast to find a few more tiny flowers and fruits by the roadside.

Big sky country 3

The Pinnacles, Broken Hill Clear blue sky is very dull!  But there is something of interest in the image.  These odd shaped mountains appear on the skyline just outside the city. I had planned otherwise for my closing sky today.  On a hill outside town there are wonderful sandstone sculptures which I saw the last time I was here. I planned to photograph them against the setting sun but we left our run too late, so you don’t get to see them until our return journey.
