Polygonum Billabong

So much water about and water birds abound.

  1. Is that its name: Polygonum? So off I go to look up the meaning ... "Any of numerous plants of the widely distributed genus Polygonum, characterized by stems with knotlike joints and conspicuous sheathlike stipules".

So is this a Joan-name or an official name? I really do not understand that entire sentence that I copied from the dictionary!

    1. It is the official name and I don't remember seeing any plants of that description there.

  2. The bird life must have been amazing. And I've never seen a gum like that before.

    1. I can't tell one gum from another ... other than that how they look different. It annoys me that I can't name them.

  3. Oh that first shot is just beautiful.
I want to be there right now - right on the banks of that billabong.
Hey, maybe that's a Coolibah tree?

Windy August

Tumbleweed It was August (known to be a windy month of the year) and it was blowing a gale.  Tumbleweeds hurtled across our path, pressed forward by the busy wind. While I was photographing the tumbleweed, I braved the icy blast to find a few more tiny flowers and fruits by the roadside.
