Contrary to expectations I didn’t see many birds. The only bird photo I managed was of these Apostle Birds. I don’t know anything about them. It is a mystery to me why the three of them sitting together in the middle of the road, not in the least bit interested in moving or disturbed by my presence.
Is that a Coolibah tree beside the abandoned house? Every Australian knows about Coolibah trees because the bush ballad Waltzing Matilda is nigh on our unoffical national anthem but most of us live nowhere near the inland where they grow. Once a jolly swagman camped by a billabong, Under the shade of a Coolibah tree, And he sang as he watched and waited till his billy boiled, You'll come a Waltzing Matilda with me. Waltzing Matilda, Waltzing Matilda, You'll come a Waltzing Matilda with me, And he sang as he watched and waited till his billy boiled You'll come a Waltzing Matilda with me.
WOW - totally different genre but again a wowphoto! Just did some searching and now I know why I have never seen Apostlebirds ;-)
ReplyDeleteHow interesting. They may have been babies waiting for a parent to feed them. Great shot.cosal
ReplyDeleteWhat a fab photo! I believe Apostle birds are so named because they hang around in groups of up to a dozen or so (but you probably already knew that!!). As to why they were sitting together in the middle of the road, was it a cold day?
ReplyDeleteRed, I didn't know that was why they are called Apostle Birds. It wasn't particularly cold weather.
