20. Forests


Australia is covered in eucalyptus forests but they are not all the same.  The trees have different shapes and sizes, different colours and textures.  These Snow Gums in the mist are typical of high mountain places.

      I find the muted greens particularly appealing in this shot. The dampness of the day also helped lift the colour at the same time as contrasting because of the dull sky.

      For me this type of forest doesn't have much of a fragrance at least not a cold wet day. A warm wet day would be different.

Larras Lee

We passed through Bakers Swamp without noticing anything.  Then reached our last dot on the map for this trip - Larras Lee and saw this.  The roadside monument says: In Memory of  WILLIAM LEE  (1794 - 1870)  of "Larras Lake"  a pioneer of the sheep  and cattle industry  and first member for  Roxburgh under responsible  government (1856 - 1859).  This stone was erected  by his descendants.  --- 1938 --- This is a repost from a few days ago. William was born of convict parents, living his childhood years around the Sydney region.
