Ringside seat

There is something great about being a kid, climbing fences, sitting on fences, walking on fences -- a delightful agility and freedom. And kids love the show. Most country towns have a show ground.  Not much happens there other than once a year for the annual show.  Take a ringside seat, we'll be checking out the action at the Rylstone-Kandos show over the new few days. I know I did Bathurst show just a year ago in this blog but I was keen to check out what the show in my new locale was like.

  1. Sounds like fun - looking forward to seeing the sights.

  2. Great to see the kids take an interest in ring events and not just side show alley. Nice shot.

  3. Last year's pictures from the fair were great, so I'm glad you'll have more for us soon.

  4. As well as the local show, the show-grounds also have machinery type exhibitions ... called ... something specific ... can't think of it ... even Google is no help ...

  5. Did you catch the Jack Russell race? Lots of fun! I love Show Day in Rylstone.

  6. Wow I missed the Jack Russell race. If I had seen it there would have been photos. We only managed to visit for an hour our two late in the afternoon.

The filmy veil of greenness

We crossed the border into Victoria cruising down a lovely timbered road before breaking into the rich dairy country of Gippsland. It is wonderful to see the land green after more than 10 years of very dry weather. But most of the state of Victoria is still drought declared. Musing: The Pasture by Robert Frost "I'm going out to clean the pasture spring; I'll only stop to rake the leaves away (And wait to watch the water clear, I may): I sha'n't be gone long. You come too. I'm going out to fetch the little calf That's standing by the mother. It's so young, It totters when she licks it with her tongue. I sha'n't be gone long. You come too."

The end

I retire from the workforce this week and to celebrate have decided to retire my current blogs and start afresh with a single consolidated blog -  My Bright Field  - to record the delights of my new life adventure. If you are interested follow me over there.  I will still be Sweet Wayfaring and collecting Royal Hotels.  The delights I discover along the way will appear together with my gardens and towns where I live.

Royal Hotel - Grong Grong

But wait, no trip is complete until a Royal or two has been added to the collection.  This one is at Grong Grong.
