King Street, Coolah 1 of 7 - A Road the Beckons

I looked at the map of the town and while the river had an interesting name most of the streets didn't.  I swung between on Charles Street in memory of my grandfather or King Street. In the end I decided on King, thinking that perhaps it might reward me with a Royal Hotel.

It turned out to be just a typical country street.

This garden well at the start of the street had me wondering whether it was real.  Back in the old days lots of country homes had wells.  There was a well at the bottom of the garden where I was raised and my parents were always warning us of the danger of falling in the well.

  1. Wells were very common in country towns and amazingly i can't ever remember anyone drowning in one. I'd love to take my secateurs to that rambling rose.

Windy August

Tumbleweed It was August (known to be a windy month of the year) and it was blowing a gale.  Tumbleweeds hurtled across our path, pressed forward by the busy wind. While I was photographing the tumbleweed, I braved the icy blast to find a few more tiny flowers and fruits by the roadside.

Big sky country 3

The Pinnacles, Broken Hill Clear blue sky is very dull!  But there is something of interest in the image.  These odd shaped mountains appear on the skyline just outside the city. I had planned otherwise for my closing sky today.  On a hill outside town there are wonderful sandstone sculptures which I saw the last time I was here. I planned to photograph them against the setting sun but we left our run too late, so you don’t get to see them until our return journey.
