Capertee

Someone is doing a good job of marketing Capertee (The scenery seen on the right is indeed spectacular) and they also claim the valley is home to more species of birds than anywhere else in the Southern Hemisphere (235 species apparently). The town of Capertee is small with fewer than 100 people but it too has a Royal Hotel.

  1. It certainly sounds like an active little town.
Agree, that scenery is great ... definitely a place to be visited.

  2. I am always dubious with claims like that, deeming them invariably excessive. My birding group goes up there for a week each year - but during 2011 when I am in Paris.

  3. I've lost the plot. Where are you? Any chance of a map?Scenery looks great. (Is Julie bragging?)

  4. I'm still convinced that what Australia needs is a portfolio sized photo book dedicated to the Royal Hotels.

  5. Diane, yes I think Julie is showing off a little. I am struggling with getting back into the routine of being a worker slave right now (new contract so new things to start and very demanding). I am very jealous of her lifestyle (and yours too for that matter).

Just for you, I will post tomorrow and include a link to a map.

Mary Ann, it could make an interesting book, maybe when I stop being worker slave.

  6. The information can't be more appealing!

Windy August

Tumbleweed It was August (known to be a windy month of the year) and it was blowing a gale.  Tumbleweeds hurtled across our path, pressed forward by the busy wind. While I was photographing the tumbleweed, I braved the icy blast to find a few more tiny flowers and fruits by the roadside.

Big sky country 3

The Pinnacles, Broken Hill Clear blue sky is very dull!  But there is something of interest in the image.  These odd shaped mountains appear on the skyline just outside the city. I had planned otherwise for my closing sky today.  On a hill outside town there are wonderful sandstone sculptures which I saw the last time I was here. I planned to photograph them against the setting sun but we left our run too late, so you don’t get to see them until our return journey.
