Monte Cristo

Monte Cristo is a late Victorian mansion built by Christopher Crawley a local landowner and hotelier who did very well out of the arrival of the railway. Today it has been carefully restored by the Ryan family.

We arrived the same time as the Citroen club so also had the pleasure of looking at the beautifully restored vehicles. I'll show you more of the house in my next post. I am going to post daily for a while.

  1. What a joy of an image, Joan! I am transported instantly to the resistance in France ...

  2. A trip into the past. Great shot...easy to imagine.

We were having a coffee at the bakery and I noticed a sign on a hotel saying it was a Cobb and Co coach stop.  That got me wondering if there was a hidden Royal Hotel in the town.  A quick google revealed not that hotel but this derelict one as the former Royal.
