As I predicted our next Wayfaring trip was to Wollongong again and I followed a little further down the bike path. This section was not so nice. The creek, though pleasant was cluttered with garbage and the native bush despoiled by many many weeds - like the lantana strangling the tea tree above. The bird calls were lovely but a rat running across the path ahead sealed the fate of this walk, I am not going to do any more posts on it. I did a trip to Sydney this weekend and will do that instead.
Is that a Coolibah tree beside the abandoned house? Every Australian knows about Coolibah trees because the bush ballad Waltzing Matilda is nigh on our unoffical national anthem but most of us live nowhere near the inland where they grow. Once a jolly swagman camped by a billabong, Under the shade of a Coolibah tree, And he sang as he watched and waited till his billy boiled, You'll come a Waltzing Matilda with me. Waltzing Matilda, Waltzing Matilda, You'll come a Waltzing Matilda with me, And he sang as he watched and waited till his billy boiled You'll come a Waltzing Matilda with me.
I always feel so sad when I see rubbish like that. Sad and pissed off with the people too lazy and irresponsible to dispose of their litter. I often wonder what their homes must be like.
ReplyDeleteIt is quite near a sports oval. I guess they are thinking about other things.
Deleteewwww.
ReplyDeleteI am not sure which bothered me most the garbage or the weeds.
DeleteHumans are hopeless! The ban of plastic bags and bottles is extremely urgent.
ReplyDeleteIt is complex isn't it. The plastic is certainly more convenient than the way it was in the past. It would be nice if people were more responsible. And as for the weeds, they are probably spread by the birds. It is nice to have a pretty garden and the cause and effect on the natural environment is not always understood.
