Is that a Coolibah tree beside the abandoned house? Every Australian knows about Coolibah trees because the bush ballad Waltzing Matilda is nigh on our unoffical national anthem but most of us live nowhere near the inland where they grow. Once a jolly swagman camped by a billabong, Under the shade of a Coolibah tree, And he sang as he watched and waited till his billy boiled, You'll come a Waltzing Matilda with me. Waltzing Matilda, Waltzing Matilda, You'll come a Waltzing Matilda with me, And he sang as he watched and waited till his billy boiled You'll come a Waltzing Matilda with me.
"To muse, to creep, to halt at will, to gaze ... such sweet wayfaring"
William Wordsworth
I remember these swans. You don't often find black ones on this side of the continent.
ReplyDeleteLucky you. Haven't seen black swans in ages.
ReplyDeleteYou be careful of those swans - one attacked us in our car once. It came up to the window (when we were parked by Lake Wendouree in Ballarat) and stuck its head in and tried to bite Vince!
ReplyDeleteI love it when swans/geese try to outrun people. They are so ungainly. But on water ...
ReplyDeleteHey I've never thought of angry swans, they seem so serene. These were more of the ungainly waddle away variety.
