Is that a Coolibah tree beside the abandoned house? Every Australian knows about Coolibah trees because the bush ballad Waltzing Matilda is nigh on our unoffical national anthem but most of us live nowhere near the inland where they grow. Once a jolly swagman camped by a billabong, Under the shade of a Coolibah tree, And he sang as he watched and waited till his billy boiled, You'll come a Waltzing Matilda with me. Waltzing Matilda, Waltzing Matilda, You'll come a Waltzing Matilda with me, And he sang as he watched and waited till his billy boiled You'll come a Waltzing Matilda with me.
"To muse, to creep, to halt at will, to gaze ... such sweet wayfaring"
William Wordsworth
Reminds me of the Oak Processionary caterpillars we have around here, a pest. Last year they had to close off some parts of the Botanical Gardens because of them.
ReplyDeleteOkay, has nothing to do with the really good and detailled shot ...
Ewwww.
ReplyDeleteItchy caterpillars.
But very cool.
Reminded me of when we had a project in primary school to keep silk worms.
ReplyDeleteEeeew, caterpillars. Great shot but you wouldn't want to bump into one accidentally.
ReplyDeleteI saw nests like this along the Ord River when I toured the Kimberleys in 2010. Never seen them locally though.
ReplyDeleteGreat spotting and amazing capture!
