Strange objects

I've not seen this before.  It's interesting what you see when you look about.

  1. Reminds me of the Oak Processionary caterpillars we have around here, a pest. Last year they had to close off some parts of the Botanical Gardens because of them.

Okay, has nothing to do with the really good and detailled shot ...

  2. Ewwww.
    Itchy caterpillars.
    But very cool.

  3. Reminded me of when we had a project in primary school to keep silk worms.

  4. Eeeew, caterpillars. Great shot but you wouldn't want to bump into one accidentally.

  5. I saw nests like this along the Ord River when I toured the Kimberleys in 2010. Never seen them locally though.

  6. Great spotting and amazing capture!

The filmy veil of greenness

We crossed the border into Victoria cruising down a lovely timbered road before breaking into the rich dairy country of Gippsland. It is wonderful to see the land green after more than 10 years of very dry weather. But most of the state of Victoria is still drought declared.

Musing:
The Pasture by Robert Frost
"I'm going out to clean the pasture spring;
I'll only stop to rake the leaves away
(And wait to watch the water clear, I may):
I sha'n't be gone long. You come too.

I'm going out to fetch the little calf
That's standing by the mother. It's so young,
It totters when she licks it with her tongue.
I sha'n't be gone long. You come too."

The end

I retire from the workforce this week and to celebrate have decided to retire my current blogs and start afresh with a single consolidated blog - My Bright Field - to record the delights of my new life adventure.
If you are interested follow me over there.  I will still be Sweet Wayfaring and collecting Royal Hotels.  The delights I discover along the way will appear together with my gardens and towns where I live.
